What we teach
In all workshops writers will explore a range of essential creative writing skills and techniques

Shaun and Tom have created an exciting and creatively stimulating package of short lectures, group workshops, directed solo writing and peer critiquing activities to explore and practice the essential creative writing skills and techniques to help writers at any stage of development – from finessing a nearly finished work in progress to those just having first thoughts about a story they want to tell – to bring their ideas alive. Their input through the weekend in all workshops will be to ‘industry standard’ and shaped by current practices in publishing, book commissioning, stage and screenwriting and production.
In our workshops writers will learn:
- Story design in various genres of creative writing, stressing similarities as well as differences in essential plot making skills and techniques.
- Creating compelling characters and their motivations.
- Writing effective dialogue; prose style and the non-dialogue aspects of writing stage scripts and screen plays.
- Using inspiration points to take your characters on a journey.
- Developing and maintaining your own writing practice.
- Successful redrafting: assessing your own work, and critiquing the work of others.
